Turns out the Army's "Try-One" recruitment program doesn't mean one year, but one lifetime. Maybe they were scared of actually ending up with only an Army of one.

Wasted: one domain plus one opportunity to build credibility.

From the fact-checking department: Please tell us, if you can, that you don't find this copy misleading, straight from Military.com's "Understanding Commitments" page itself:

The one year trial plan. Both the Army and Air National Guard offer the “Try-One” enlistment option to active duty veterans and all prior service individuals who are joining or rejoining the Guard for the first time. This program lets you try the Guard for one year without additional commitment.
