This date, October 16, is the anniversary of Karol Józef Wojtyła's accession to the Roman Catholic papacy as John Paul II in 1978. His predecessor had died on September 28, after just thirty-three days as pontiff. Following one of the shortest pontificates in history, John Paul II has had one of the longest. Too bad his domain is wasted.
