permalink.com

Business :: Irony :: Print & Pixel :: Technology

Permalinks are what Movable Type calls the URLs of blog entries' archive pages. But now that MT has gone to a relatively inflexible licensing structure, they have many of us wondering how permanent our links to this otherwise wonderful content-management system will be.

(By the way, since in their own words they're "big on honor at Six Apart," will movabletype.org be giving up that tasty non-profit domain extension now? We suspect not.)

Anyway, that's what inspired us to think about permalink.com, whose 404 page admits two different forms of impermanence:

  • The website you are trying to view is currently unavalible [sic].

  • The website you are trying to view is no longer on this...server.
Alas, poor Yorick! We knew him well.
