Warning! This is not really a wasted domain — it just looks like one. 7-Eleven, Inc., owns and is using it, but they require you to type the "www." I just don't understand it: it isn't hard to set up servers to resolve domains either with or without the "www." Just think of the lost traffic! Don't let this happen to you.
For the record, this is a surprisingly common mistake (which is why we bother to mention it). Even our favorite neighborhood institution of higher education, North Park University (northpark.edu — oh wait, make that www.northpark.edu), misses this detail.
